Top 10 Employer Checklist

Here are ten things I look for in an employer. How does your employer score?

Also, would you add anything else, or dispute any of these as being important benefits?

1) Casual or no dress code
2) Reasonable start times, flex time, and occasional work from home.
3) No outbound network filter
4) No restrictive operating systems
5) A preference for using open source or custom built applications (instead of 3rd party apps)
6) Agile development methodologies / Self-managing teams
7) High hiring standards, and a preference for hiring great people instead of those with a very specific skill set that happen to be available right now
8) Task ownership pushed to lowest level possible
9) The office environment is creative and fun
10) Getting stuff done is easy, ie, you don’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops to implement an idea
